Local citations are crucial to the success of local SEO campaigns. These are mentions of the name of a business along with its physical address and telephone number in other websites. Similar to backlinks, citations are used by Google as a relevance signal that affects its organic search results and Google Places rankings.
Unlike backlinks, however, citations don’t impact SEO by pushing link equity. Instead, citations help sites rank in local SERPs by strengthening the association of a business entity with local entities such as an address and a phone numbers that are associated with cities, regions and countries.
Citations can be found on a variety of website types, but the most common are:

Just remember that when you’re submitting information to these directories, your business name, address and phone number (NAP) have to be the same for every listing. Consistency and uniformity is key, so make sure your citation NAPs are also identical to the one you display in your site and on your Google My Business (GMB) listing.
A lot of these directory services will ask for some verification to make sure that your business is legitimate. You may have to answer callbacks and send over scans of business permits to prove that you’re not a fly-by-night operation.
